BWPD Fire 6-13-17

(Beachwood / Ocean County, NJ) – On June 13, 2017 at approximately 1930 hours the patrol division was dispatched to a Spar Avenue address for a reported structure fire.  Patrolman Keith Meissner, Patrolman Andrew Altman, Patrolman David Bowden and Detective Allen Magory arrived to find a working fire with heavy smoke showing.  The Officers made entry into the residence and searched through the smoke and located an unconscious male inside the residence.  The Officers brought the male to safety and he began to regain consciousness.  The officers attempted to re-enter the residence to search for additional people based on information supplied by the male subject.  Due to the heavy smoke and heat conditions, Officers were not able to re-enter the residence.  Beachwood Fire Department arrived on scene at which time fire personnel extinguished the fire and conducted a secondary search.  No additional people were located in the residence.  The male subject rescued by police was confirmed to be a resident of the address and was treated at the scene by Beachwood First Aid Squad.

The immediate actions of the police officers and quick response by the fire department along with the support of the first aid limited the potential life and property disaster that could have resulted from this incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Beachwood Police Detective Allen Magory along with the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office and Beachwood Fire Prevention personnel.
